For my first painting choice of Van Gogh, I chose the Mountainous Landscape Behind Saint-Paul Hospital. I chose this painting because when I was nine years old my mother, aunt, and I used to go to Gatlinburg Tennessee to the mountains. This picture reminds me of that because when we used to be driving there, we would see the mountains in the distance as we drove by all the little houses and hills. I used to love going to the mountains because it was so interesting to me and I looked forward to it each year. From the brush strokes in the picture I think that they convey a calm, windy day. The color choices in the picture convey an emotion of tranquility.
